Who doesn’t want to live in an eco-friendly home?!

Actually going about it, however, is a whole other question. Making sustainable decisions shouldn’t have to be a challenge, so let’s make those decisions into habits and those habits into a lifestyle (without compromising style!)

Oh and by the way, environmentally friendly choices can also be kind to your wallet!

1) Invest in Dinnerware you Love

Sure, single use dishware may let you skip some dishwashing, but if you use reusable dishes, cups, and utensils, the environment (and your dinner guests) will thank you!

Try a sleek and neutral set or go with something bold and colorful that compliments your design.

2) Re-use Napkins and Dish Towels

Cut down on paper waste by picking up re-usable napkins and dish towels. These are the small details that bring your home design together. Try bold patterns to add some accent color and flare to your kitchen!

3) Recycle

Good habits are formed and reinforced if they are easy to do, so make your recycling cute and convenient! Find décor-friendly recycling bins to go in your kitchen, bathroom, home office, laundry room, or wherever you find yourself needing them the most! A good way to do this is to pair a recycling bin with each trash can, or even try a bin combo.

Don't forget to check your local city website to make sure you know what materials are recyclable in your community.

4) Donate old furniture

If you are re-vamping your space (yay!!), consider donating old furniture. Some donation services will even pick up your furniture for free! Look into organizations in your local community, or connect with groups like Habitat for Humanity or the Salvation Army.

5) Use Energy Efficient Light Bulbs

Not only are LED light bulbs better for the environment, they can also save you big bucks throughout the year. While they may be a little more expensive up front, they end up using 75%+ less energy and lasting 25x longer than other bulbs.

As we approach the holiday season, consider using LED holiday lights as well!

6) Opt for a Toaster Oven

When re-heating or cooking small meals, cut your energy consumption in half, and opt for a toaster oven instead of a conventional electric oven.

7) Clean with Natural Products

Cleaning products are a home necessity, so let's go with a natural option. When making your selection, consider both what is in the product, and the products packaging and shipping. Plus, if you pick up a reusable cleaning bottle, you’ll never have to buy one again!

8) Install Energy Efficient Appliances

When upgrading appliances, keep an eye on their energy efficiency. Going with a more efficient option will help you save money and the environment!
